This study was conducted to investigate the feasibility of a pilot trial using a combination of fluconazole and diflucan to eradicate the common fungal group in Singapore, Singapore’s most important healthcare resource in Malaysia.
A 12-week, parallel-double-blind, randomized study was conducted to assess the feasibility of using fluconazole-diflucan combination to eradicate the common fungal group in Singapore.
The study will run in Malaysian context, with a study design involving a combination of fluconazole and diflucan, with the participants receiving two fluconazole doses, 500 mg and 500 mg diflucan in three divided doses in the first 12 weeks of the study, respectively.
A pilot study was conducted in five private and public hospitals in the city of Selangor, with a randomization sequence of 0 to 3 and 6 to 12 weeks respectively for this study. The study will run in Malaysian context with a study design involving a combination of fluconazole and diflucan, with the participants receiving two fluconazole doses, 500 mg and 500 mg diflucan in three divided doses in the first 12 weeks of the study.
During the 12-week trial, the participant received fluconazole 500 mg for three days, and then received diflucan 500 mg for four days, and then received fluconazole 500 mg for eight days. The participants were asked to drink three tablets of a single fluconazole tablet daily for 48 h (with a washout period of 48 h), and the drug was added after each dose. The results of the pilot study showed that the participants experienced a significant reduction in yeast-free counts in a time-to-event interval (p < 0.05), with no significant difference in the number of fungal-positive cultures in the urine samples. The average time to treatment with fluconazole and diflucan was 12.5 h, with an average time to treatment of 21.2 h and 21.1 h, respectively. The overall treatment time was significantly less than the previous study with fluconazole, and the average treatment time was significantly less than the previous study with diflucan.
The pilot study was feasible using the combination of fluconazole and diflucan in Singapore, Singapore’s most important healthcare resource in Malaysia, to eradicate the common fungal group.
